Privacy Policy

Effective Date: August 17, 2026

MovePace ("MovePace," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by VC Design Lab, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the MovePace mobile application and related services (the "Service"). By using MovePace, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information that is necessary to operate the Service and provide AI-generated running coaching.

Account Information

MovePace uses Sign in with Apple as its only account method. When you create an account, we collect:

  • Your Apple-issued account identifier
  • The email address you share (including Apple private relay addresses)
  • Authentication tokens, stored securely on your device

We never see or store your Apple account password.

Coaching Profile

During onboarding and in Profile settings, we collect information needed to personalize your coaching, including:

  • Age, biological sex, resting heart rate, and maximum heart rate — used to calculate your personal heart-rate training zones
  • How far you're comfortable running right now
  • Training goal (Health & Fat Loss, General Fitness, Event Prep, or Return to Running), and — for Event Prep — your target event distance, event date, and target pace
  • How a run felt, if you tag it — including pain or cramp, so coaching can be adjusted safely around it
  • Your selected coach persona (Encouraging, Supportive, Direct, or Motivating)

A pain or cramp tag is health information you provide voluntarily to receive safer, more accurate coaching. We use it only for that purpose.

Workout Data from Apple Health

With your permission, MovePace reads the following from Apple Health (HealthKit):

  • Running workouts, including distance, duration, and pace
  • Heart rate and resting heart rate
  • Step count, used to calculate cadence
  • Date of birth and biological sex, if you've entered them in Health
  • The GPS route already recorded with a workout, used only as described in Section 3 below

MovePace's access to Apple Health is read-only — the app never writes or modifies data in Apple Health. You can review or revoke this access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health on your device.

After a run, you can also tag how it felt (for example Easy, Hard, Tired, or Pain) — these tags are entered directly in the app and are not read from Apple Health.

Device and Technical Information

We may automatically collect limited technical information — device type, operating system, app version, and diagnostic or crash data — to help keep the Service reliable and secure.

2. Location Information

MovePace does not request live location access and does not track your location in the background or while you run. When a workout you've recorded already includes a GPS route in Apple Health, MovePace may use the coordinate and time of that recorded run — not your live position — to look up historical weather conditions (Section 3). If a workout has no route data, this step is simply skipped.

3. Weather Context for Coaching

MovePace may use Apple WeatherKit to retrieve historical weather (temperature, conditions, wind) at the time and place a past run occurred, using the coordinate already stored in that workout's Apple Health record. This gives the AI coach context — for example, recognizing that a harder-feeling run happened during a heat wave rather than reflecting declining fitness. This data is used only to generate your coaching and is not used for any other purpose.

4. Artificial Intelligence Processing

MovePace uses artificial intelligence to generate your Post-Run Summaries, Next Run Recommendations, and Weekly Digests. AI-generated coaching is informational, reflects your chosen coach persona, and is not medical advice. This section explains exactly what that involves.

Who processes this data

MovePace sends the data described below to Anthropic PBC, the company that makes Claude, to generate the coaching text you read. Your device never contacts Anthropic directly: the app sends this data to MovePace's own backend (hosted on Supabase), which forwards it to Anthropic's API and returns the generated coaching to your device.

What is sent to Anthropic

Three categories of data are sent, and nothing else:

  • Run data, read from Apple Health (or entered by you, for feel tags): date, distance, duration, pace, average heart rate, heart-rate zone, cadence, elevation, time of day, and any "how did it feel" tag you added
  • Profile data, from onboarding: age, biological sex, resting and maximum heart rate, your computed heart-rate zones, training goal, event distance/date and target pace if you've set one, your comfortable running distance, and your chosen coach persona
  • Weather at the location and time of the run being coached (see Section 3)

What is not sent

Your name, email address, and account identity are never sent to Anthropic. Anthropic receives your running and profile data without any information about who you are.

What it is used for

This data is used for one purpose only — generating the text of your Post-Run Summary, Next Run Recommendation, and Weekly Digest — and is not used for advertising or marketing, is not sold, and is not shared with anyone beyond Anthropic for that purpose.

How Anthropic protects this data

Under Anthropic's commercial terms, Anthropic does not train its models on data submitted through its API. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, treated as confidential, and retained only for as long as needed to provide the service — deleted within 30 days of the end of MovePace's agreement with Anthropic, except where retention is required by law, to resolve a dispute, or to prevent harmful use. These commitments are set out in Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service.

Your consent

Before any run or profile data is sent to Anthropic, MovePace shows you this same information — what is sent, what isn't, and what it's used for — during onboarding, and asks you to agree before continuing.

5. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Provide and maintain the MovePace service
  • Generate personalized coaching — Post-Run Summaries, Next Run Recommendations, Weekly Digests, and Recovery Status
  • Calculate your heart rate zones and track training progress over time
  • Improve the functionality and reliability of the application
  • Provide customer support
  • Comply with legal obligations

6. How We Share Information

We do not sell personal information. We share information only with trusted service providers as necessary to operate the Service, including:

  • Cloud infrastructure and database hosting providers (Supabase)
  • Anthropic PBC, to generate your coaching text — see Section 4 for exactly what is sent and how it's protected
  • Weather data providers (Apple WeatherKit)
  • Authentication providers (Apple)

These providers are required to handle data securely and only for the purpose of providing services to MovePace.

7. Data Storage and Security

Account and coaching data are stored using secure cloud infrastructure, with access restricted by row-level security policies scoped to your account. Authentication tokens are stored in your device's Keychain. We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information; however, no method of electronic storage or transmission over the Internet is completely secure.

8. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as necessary to provide the Service and fulfill legal obligations. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data unless retention is required for legal or security purposes. You may request account deletion by contacting us at vlad@vcdesignlab.com.

9. International Users

MovePace is operated from the United States. By using the Service, you understand that your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and the right to restrict certain processing activities. To exercise these rights, contact us at vlad@vcdesignlab.com.

11. U.S. State Privacy Rights

Residents of certain U.S. states, including California, may have additional privacy rights under applicable state privacy laws. MovePace does not sell personal information. If you are a California resident, you may request access to or deletion of your personal data by contacting us.

12. Children's Privacy

MovePace is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that such information has been collected, we will take steps to delete it.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When updates occur, the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy will be revised. Your continued use of the Service after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
